Amy's Money Woes (3)
John: Credit cards are really dangerous. They offer you really low introductory interest rates.
Amy: I know. I love that! I've got one at zero percent and two at seven!
John: But, those will go up. Most credit card rates are around fifteen to eighteen percent.
Amy: So I'll have to pay a little more in the long run.
John: Try a lot more. Most of your monthly bills are paying off interest and not what you bought.
Amy: But they're so easy to use. C'mon, dinner at the mall, my 14)treat!
1) introductory (a.)
2) interest rate 利率
3) in the long run
4) treat (n.) 請客。My treat.

Amy's Money Woes (2)
John: You actually believe in fortunetellers?
Amy: Of course, I'm Taiwanese. Anyway, I'm seeing my plastic surgeon, Doctor Dave, on Friday.
John: This is, like, your third operation in the last few months. How do you pay for it all?
Amy: Where there's a credit card, there's a way.
John: But credit cards still have to be paid off. And with no job...
Amy: You sound like my big sister. Once I get a job, I'll pay them off.
1) plastic surgeon
3) operation (n.)

Amy's Money Woes(1)
Amy's neighbor John runs into Amy on the stairs
John: Whoa! That's a lot of bags! Let me help you.
Amy: Thanks. Macy's had a sale I couldn't miss out on!
John: So this is how you're spending your days now that you're unemployed. Any luck finding a new job?
Amy: None. I even went to a fortuneteller to find out what's wrong.
John: Let me guess...he told you to buy a new outfit?
Amy: No, he said my nose is too flat, so bosses don't think I'm trustworthy.
2) miss out on 錯失了…
3) unemployed (a.)
4) fortuneteller (n.)
6) trustworthy (a.)

Although
Although Mary's nice, but she's not my type.
Although Mary's nice, she's not my type.
Mary's nice, but she's not my type.
3.although
.Although (he was) slow, he won the race.
.Although it is so late, yet he'd like to go out.
.Although she came, still she did not seem to want to be here.

Wei: I just love how multi-cultural this area is! And fashionable!
Paul: Yeah. People enjoy sitting on these patios, sipping away on drinks.
Wei: The shops look all funky and trendy!
Paul: And Montreal is known for it's vibrant night life!
Wei: Hey Paul, is Anne of Green Gables around here? My sister told me about her.
Paul: Ha! No, that story is from P.E.I...about eight hours northeast of here.
Wei: Like you said...road trips are fun, eh? Let's go!

Four hours later, in Montreal, on Rue St-Denis
Trev: The architecture we've seen so far has impressed me.
Paul: It's like an old Canadian colonial style with all the brick and stone.
Trev: The cobblestone streets and cool lampposts give me a glimpse of Canadian nostalgia.
Paul: I agree! It's always nice to mix in a little old with some of the new.
Trev: Now I just need to learn to speak a little French...
Paul: The locals would respect you more if you could!
1) colonial (a.)
2) cobblestone (n.)
3) lamppost (n.)

Paul: Ha-ha! I like that one! We Canadians like to make fun of ourselves the most!

Trev: How can you make fun of politeness?

Trev: I don't know.
Paul: You say: "Please get off my front lawn." Pretty funny, eh?
1) hockey (n.)
2) paparazzi (n.)
3) lawn (n.)

Trev: Let's pull into that parking spot and check it out!
Paul: Said and done.
Trev: [They all enter the store] Brrr. It's cold in here...Wow! This is like heaven. All I can see are boxes of brewskies!
Paul: In Ontario, this is only one of two places you can buy beer besides in bars and restaurants.
Trev: Look at all the different beers from different countries!

Trev: Look at all the different beers from different countries!

At Badu's house, the candle lighting ceremony
Taylor: Boy, am I thirsty. Can I have a drink of this?
Badu: Whoa, no...wait, Taylor. The elder is gonna drink from this cup and then pass it around.
Taylor: Thanks for the save. That would have been embarrassing.
Badu: No problem. Just keep watching, and you'll learn a lot.
Taylor: I used to know what the colors of the candles stand for, but I forgot.
Badu: Well, let me enlighten you. [laughs] Black is for African people the world over.

Yi-jun: Let's get him. Holly. You take the left.
Holly: You'll wish you never started this after we rub your face in the snow! Attack!

Holly: Enough about Taylor. Here's the game plan. I'm on the lookout for cool Christmas ornaments.
Yi-jun: So that's what you put in your parents' stockings?
Holly: That, and some different fruits and nuts and a couple of lottery cards.
Yi-jun: No candy?
Holly: Just sugar-free. My dad's diabetic.
Yi-jun: I wish I'd known that before. I brought Chinese desserts as a gift. What should I do?
Holly: Don't worry. At Christmas, it's the thought that counts. And trust me, mom will eat them all.

Yi-jun: Didn't Taylor want to come, too?
Holly: Nah, he said his stomach hurt and he had a sore throat, so I let him sleep in.
